Who are we?

Together with a few doctors in Australia, we have formed a non-profit organization called “PAALAM – The Bridge to Humanity (PBH) to address the significant gaps in Palliative Care services and support in Sri Lanka and among immigrant and multicultural populations in Australia. 

Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure that everyone with a terminal illness has access to comprehensive, culturally sensitive, and compassionate palliative care, regardless of their location, background, or beliefs.

About Our Team

Director Dr Ganes Pranavan

I am a dedicated Medical Oncologist and the Director of “Paalam the Bridge to Humanity”, a charity organization committed to enhancing palliative care services in Sri Lanka, India, and among subcontinental immigrants in Australia. With extensive experience in oncology and a passion for improving the quality of life for individuals with incurable illnesses, I will lead Paalam in its mission to provide compassionate care and support to those in need, ensuring that everyone has access to tailored palliative care, regardless of their location or background

Deputy director: Dr Senthan Ponniah

I am an experienced Anaesthetist based in Canberra, renowned for his expertise in pain management. Having lived in Sri Lanka and Australia and with my deep-seated passion for helping people, I am dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those living with incurable illnesses. Im confident with my specialized skills, I will be a valuable asset to the Palliative Care foundation.

Secretary: Dr Raj Rajadorai

I am a senior palliative care physician. I have been an ACT resident since 2008 but have previously lived in Malaysia, England, Wales and Singapore. With a passion for precision, I am confident that I will provide tailored care to the community and will assist with education and training in palliative care medicine.

Treasurer: Mr Kuga Kugathas

I am a Senior Director (Infrastructure Specialist) within the ACT Government, with over 30 years of experience in engineering and management. Originally from Sri Lanka, I have lived in Australia for more than 30 years, leading sustainable and people-centered infrastructure planning. As Chapter President of Engineers for Charity Inc. (ACT) and a Board Member of the Institute of Sathya Sai Education Australia, I am passionate about giving back, having empowered over 1,000 women and children and provided scholarships to over 100 students. My expertise and dedication align closely with Paalam’s mission.

Dr Premalatha Sathyanarayanan

With my background in Medicine in India, and broad experience in the Disability & Aged Care sector in Canberra Australia since 2010,<br /> I always have a strong desire to be part of charitable medical organisations/projects that work to enhance the quality of life of vulnerable people in the community. My personal drive to render medical aid to vulnerable people inspired me to participate and organise several rural medical camps in Chennai, India.

Mr Senthan Sanchayan

As Public Relations Officer, Senthan’s objective is to communicate the impact of Paalam’s work and help our community get involved. Experienced working in both corporate and creative agency startup spaces, Senthan leverages new media strategies to platform Paalam.

Mr Thuraisamy Ravichander

My name is T Ravichander. I am a Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Specialist attached to Western Cancer Care Centre, Dubbo. I am deeply committed to supporting terminally ill patients and their families with low socioeconomic background. I believe in providing compassionate care and making a meaningful difference in their lives during such a challenging time. I am dedicated to enhancing their quality of life and ensuring they receive the support and dignity they deserve.

Dr Sudarshini Pranavan

My name is Suda Pranavan. I’m a General Practitioner by profession, born in Sri Lanka and raised in the vibrant city of Chennai. Currently, I reside in Australia. I am deeply passionate about charitable work, particularly in supporting women and children. My focus areas include mental health, domestic violence, health awareness, and child abuse. Through my work, I strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need and contribute to creating a healthier and safer community.
